I am a lawyer by day, and also by night – weekdays through weekends, bente-quatro oras! Hopefully that changes soon with my transition into a new role as Corporate Legal Counsel for a leading power producer. Aside from practicing yoga, I am interested in health and fitness, anything related to zombies, eating (which necessarily includes Instagram-ing photos of food) and discovering new music (to practice yoga with).

I started practicing yoga in 2005 but that, and the rest of my life, was brought to a halt when I entered law school in 2007. I have been practicing regularly ever since yoga+ opened its Makati branch in 2013.

I used to wall climb and run a lot and so I decided to try yoga to complement my activities, specifically to increase my flexibility, develop agility, and build endurance. My return to yoga in 2013 was simply to lose a few pounds since our office had a Biggest Loser Weight Loss Challenge at that time.

I can probably write a series of articles on how yoga has changed my life. However, I think the easiest answer would be is that yoga has helped me become healthier. I was at my heaviest in 2013 at about 200 pounds and had a 40-inch waistline, which I think already qualifies as “morbidly obese” since I only stand 5’5 tall. At present, I weight approximately 150 pounds and my waist shrunk to 31 inches (I don’t have a special diet and I believe that a meal is not complete without dessert).

On the mental level, yoga has helped me start viewing limitations as non-limiting. Each limitation for me is an opportunity for self-improvement and teaches me to be self-disciplined and fearless. Simply stated I am slowly but surely embracing my life without limitations.

I keep on practicing yoga for the sake of the people around me. I have observed that I am a very different person and become very irritable, impatient and unpleasant to be with if I haven’t practiced. All kidding aside, I keep on practicing simply because I am happiest when I am on the mat. I also noticed that I am more focused, efficient, and productive after practicing yoga.

I practice Vinyasa Flow, Ashtanga, and Jivamukti. I don’t have a favorite pose but I enjoy inversions and balancing (standing and arm balancing) poses the most.

I have a long list of dream poses that includes crazy inversions and balancing poses (i.e. “Eka Hasta Vrksasana” or One Handed Tree pose and “Kala Bhairavasana” or the Destroyer of the Universe pose). However, I would be perfectly happy if I could learn to be completely still in and out of poses and not fall asleep during Shavasana.

I love yoga+ not only because it is very accessible and convenient for urban yogis like me but more importantly because it offers various kinds of classes and workshops and has an awesome line up of teachers.
