This will really depend on what your medical condition is. We have students who have hypertension, asthma, Parkinson’s, lupus, scoliosis. They find that their practice helps them deal with their medical condition. Please inform the instructor before the class starts if you have any medical condition or injury that limits your range of motion or that will affect your breathing. That way, he/she can watch over you during class.
Please obtain a clearance from your doctor before starting your practice. Do not stop taking your medication without the advice of your doctor. If you have asthma and may require an inhaler, please make sure it is readily available.
Ideally, yoga should be practiced daily. If your job or lifestyle will not allow you to do this we recommend that you come at least 3-4 times a week to realize the benefits of yoga.
Most exercise programs, sports and other physical activities focus in muscle development and endurance. Yoga, on the other hand, works on the muscles, internal organs, glands, joints. It focuses on the entire body and not just on specific body parts. It also puts a lot emphasis on breathing. Deep and slow breathing helps increase our lung capacity, improve our circulation and relieve stress. Yoga has been scientifically proven to help in stress management, healing of various types of injuries as well as management of several diseases. Furthermore, yoga is an activity that has benefits extending far beyond physical fitness. Many practitioners experience transformation in their outlook in life.
